The turn of the 19th century brought the first big migration of Filipinos to the U.S. The “Manongs” were predominately single men, working back breaking farm jobs. In their free time they dressed to the nines drawing the irie of their white counterparts . They also became labor leaders, building the foundations of the farmer workers movement.
